Tucson Red Ghosts is a USL League One soccer club located in Tucson, Arizona. Tucson has a rich, indigenous history, a vibrant culture, and breathtaking scenery that define the city.
When designing for this team, I researched the indigenous folklore of the city. The Red Ghost (an undead corpse riding a beast) is a legend that haunted the area in the 1880s. Using this as inspiration, I created a color palette that reflected the folklore and terrain, and a mascot that was inspired by the Red Ghost.
THE BADGE
Crest: derived from the seal of Arizona
Star: derived from the state flag of Arizona
Typography: strong + geometric embodies power + strength
Vertical Stripes: symbolizing a historical element, allude to the height of the terrain
THE MASCOT
Using sharp, thick lines that mimic the style of the Tucson Red Ghosts’ soccer badge, the mascot was made.
Just like the legend, the mascot is unnamed and is better known as the “Red Ghost.” Sporting the look of a fierce and determined skeleton, this perfectly fits the legend of the “Red Ghost.”
The “Red Ghost” mascot can replace the star in the badge.
